INTRODUCTION TO NEW PURPOSE

New Purpose was founded in 2016 by Rev. Dr. Kevin Brown with a deep commitment to serving the community. Initially a church, it quickly became evident that the mission extended far beyond its walls. Dr. Brown realized that eradicating poverty and building a society where everyone can thrive required a broader, more strategic approach.

In 2020, he transformed New Purpose into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the goal of tackling the root causes of poverty. Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his book And The Beat Goes On: Towards a Sustainable Beloved Community, Dr. Brown set out to create lasting change. New Purpose focuses not only on providing immediate support but also on addressing systemic barriers that keep people trapped in poverty. Driven by compassion and determination, the organization works to empower individuals and transform communities. At New Purpose, we believe that building a more just and loving world is a collective effort, ensuring no one is left behind.

ABOUT REV. DR. KEVIN BROWN

Meet Rev. Dr. Kevin Brown, a visionary leader and social justice advocate from Columbus, MS, who is deeply committed to eradicating poverty and empowering marginalized communities. Guided by the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Dr. Brown’s work focuses on transforming systems of inequality and creating opportunities for all individuals to thrive, regardless of their background. As Founder and CEO of New Purpose, a nonprofit organization established in 2020, he leads initiatives aimed at empowering individuals and advocating for systemic change.

His efforts center on amplifying the voices of marginalized communities, providing them with essential resources, and fostering collaboration to build strong, sustainable communities. Under his leadership, New Purpose has become a beacon of hope for those seeking to break the cycle of poverty.
